The Members of UFCW Local 175 who are employed at Broadview Nursing Centre in Smiths Falls achieved a new collective agreement on August 1, 2017.

The contract, reached after conciliation over issues such as wages and clothing allowance, covers 59 full and part-time workers. These members are part of the Local 175 Health, Office & Professional Employees (HOPE) Sector.

Over the three-year term, Members receive an initial increase of 1.4% including retroactive pay for hours worked since April 3, 2017, plus 1.4% in each the second and third year.

Members achieved improved bereavement language which now includes siblings, step-parents, and step-children. In addition, there are important language improvements regarding harassment and bullying, and the grievance procedure.

Contributions to the workers’ dental plan increase by 2 cents per hour and the company will pay 9.5% of the total premium effective April 3, 2019. The clothing allowance improves by an additional 1 cent per hour worked effective April 3, 2018.

The contract now includes specific language allowing the Members’ Union Representative to service at the premises 30 minutes per month.
