Members at Barrington Retirement Residence achieve new contract through HLDAA

Livita Barrington Retirement Residences members in Barrie have secured a new two-year agreement awarded through the Hospital Labour Disputes Arbitration Act (HLDAA) decision dated April 14, 2023.

Members will see general wage increases on January 1, 2022 – 3% and January 1, 2023 – 3.5%. Evening premiums were increased to $0.20 up from $0.15/hr. Night premiums were increase to $0.30 up from $0.25/hr. The UCP premium increased to $0.50 from the previous $0.25/hour.

Employees who have completed their probation are eligible to participate in the pension plan, previously members had to wait 6 months to participate.

The employer contribution for coverage of health and welfare benefits is increased to 80% up from 75%. Additionally, eligibility to qualify is reduced to 3 months for full-time employees and to the completion of probation for part-time employees.

Previously overtime was paid after 80 hours bi-weekly, going forward overtime will be paid after 7.5 hours in a day, a significant improvement.

Probationary employees will now have seniority standing and the employer must recognize seniority for scheduling purposes, previously this was not required.
