The 147 full and part-time retail grocery workers at Leduc’s Sobeys achieved a new agreement on May 3, 2017.

Members at the Orangeville store secured increases totalling at least $1.25 per hour for full-time over the contract term. In addition, they receive $900 in lump sum payments. Part-time benefit from reduced wage progressions of 750 hours, down from 1,000. Part-time employees on the grid will receive increases, which will total a minimum of 90 cents per hour, over the life of the agreement. The grid is also indexed to minimum wage to ensure rates stay above provincial increases.

Scheduling language improvements ensure that schedules are posted in a timely manner, at least six days prior to the Sunday of the affected week.

The agreement was opened and negotiated 20 months early to deal with minimum wage issues. Language maintains that Sunday is voluntary work for employees hired before January 24, 2012. Those same employees also maintain the shift premium for Sunday work.
