The members of Local 175 working at the Katoen Natie Canada warehouse in Mississauga achieved a new agreement recently.

Wages improve by 2% in each year of the agreement term. The first increase is retroactive for hours worked since expiry of the previous contract. In addition, all employees receive a lump sum payment of $500 per year. Lastly, all employees will be placed on the wage grid based on seniority instead of by classification.

Employer contributions to the workers’ health and welfare plan will improve in each year of the agreement. Retroactively, the rate will increase to 6.20%, up from 5.5%. In year two, the rate will be 6.40%, and in year three the rate will increase to 6.65%.

Important language achieved ensures the employer will no longer force employees to work in different departments without the training and ability to perform the required work. Lastly, the company agreed to contribute $500 per year toward the Local 175 Training & Education Fund.

Members ratified the deal on December 2, 2018.

Union Negotiating Committee: Sandros DeCeccho, Barry Neddo, and Union Rep Orsola Augurusa.
