Island Foodland members vote yes to 3-year contract

Retail grocery Members at Island Foodland in Mindemoya ratified a three-year agreement on April 20, 2017.

The 42-member bargaining unit achieved a number of improvements.

End rate wages increase by 5.9% in year one, 1% in year two, and 1.5% in year three. In addition, members achieved a new wage grid that ensures rates stay ahead of minimum wage increases announced by the province.

The RRSP employer contribution amounts increased to $250 per year, up from $200, for full-time employees. Part-time employees can now participate in the group RRSP as well after one year of service with a maximum employer contribution of $150 per year.

Enhanced language provides for an additional personal day for full-time, and a new personal day for part-time, per year. Bereavement leave improves to include additional family members under the existing leave provisions.
