Hunter Douglas members secure 3-year deal

UFCW 175 members of the Hunter Douglas Union negotiating committeeThe 186 full-time employees at Hunter Douglas in Brampton secured a new three-year collective agreement on November 28, 2018.

The parties entered conciliation in this round of bargaining to deal with several issues for the employees at Hunter Douglas. These issues included challenges regarding layoffs by seniority, instead of by skills and ability, plus improvements to benefits and wages.

As a result, wages will improve by 2% in each year of the agreement term. The first increase will be retroactive for hours worked since August 3, 2018. Benefit coverage improves to provide $1,250 per year, up from $1,150, for physiotherapy, and $400 per 24-month period, up from $375, for vision care. In addition, Surgical Stockings will be reimbursed to a maximum of $400 for two pairs.

The employer will contribute $3,500 per year to the Local 175 Training & Education Fund. Plus, the company committed to provide annual training for 36 employees in various departments.
