On Saturday, May 26, 2012, about 260 avid golfers braved the heat and humidity and took to the links at the Lionhead Golf & Country Club in Brampton to raise $40,689 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. [view photos]“Everyone was very generous,” says Local 175 President Shawn Haggerty, who was on hand at the event. “This tournament always raises a lot of much needed money for the LLSC, but this year’s total was record-setting and I want to thank everyone that took part in making that happen.”
A total of eight prizes of $200 each were given out for both ladies’ and men’s longest drive and closest to the pin on both the Legends and Masters courses. The team from UFCW Local 1000A, consisting of Rick Pereira, Bill Vantol, Tony Agostini and Gord Jackson, took home UFCW jackets and the trophy as tournament champs.
Funds raised came from tickets sold for raffle prize draws and a 50/50 draw as well as entry fees for the tournament. The list of prizes included large flat panel LCD and Plasma TVs, an iPad and BlackBerry Playbook, an XBOX 360, a patio set, Blue Jays tickets, Metro gift cards, gift baskets, an autographed Argos jersey and of course golf items like a set of Nike Ignite Irons, and TaylorMade RocketBallz, golf clubs and golf stand bag.
Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who participated for making it a great day out on the course. Thanks also to the many sponsors of this tournament and those who generously donated prizes towards the event.
