Emterra Grafton ratifies collective agreement with new ownership; achieve wage increases, new RRSP and retain benefit levels.

Emterra Environmental in Grafton unanimously ratified a three-year agreement on February 26, 2024.

There will be a wage adjustment for Skilled Trades in year one – $6.47/hour. Maintenance Lead wage adjustment in year one- $2.26/hour. All other classifications will receive a lump sum payment of $1325 in year one within 60 days of date of ratification.

All classifications will receive wage increases in Year 2 – 2.25% and Year 3 – 2.5%.

The five-year wage progression grid will be deleted for all classifications.

The employer will implement a RRSP contribution program within ninety days of ratification. The employees may contribute up to $125 per pay and the company will match the contribution rate, up to $125 per pay. Employees who wish to make additional unmatched voluntary contributions may do so in consultation with payroll/HR.  

The members were successful in retaining their current benefit levels with the change in ownership from Northumberland County to Emterra Environmental.

The boot allowance will increase to $240 per year.

Bereavement improvements will include that when the death of a family member listed occurs while an employee is on shift and the employee is notified while at work, they shall be entitled to leave work with pay for the remainder of their shift without any such remainder of the shift being considered the first day of bereavement leave pay.

New language will provide for an employer contribution to the Training and Education fund of $250 per contract year.
