In December, Local 175 welcomed new Members to the Union from The Riverine, which is a retirement care home in Napanee.

The health care employees at The Riverine reached out to the Union to gain some of the benefits enjoyed by Unionized employees, also represented by Local 175, at another facility owned by the same employer.

Classifications covered in the new bargaining unit at The Riverine include:

  • Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs),
  • Personal Support Workers (PSWs),
  • Dietary Aides,
  • Unregulated Care Providers,
  • Maintenance,
  • Housekeeping, and;
  • Kitchen staff.

Employees had a number of concerns that brought them to the Union, including working conditions such as working short. Other issues the employees would like to address through negotiations are wages, benefits, favouritism, seniority, and job security. Learn more about why health care workers join our Union.

Congratulations to the 41 newest members of UFCW Local 175, and welcome to Your Union.
