The hospitality members employed by Dev Centre Inc. (Dev Hotel and Conference Centre) in Cornwall ratified a two-year agreement on December 13, 2022 after a very challenging set of bargaining with a new employer seeking concessions and significant changes to the CBA.

After numerous days of bargaining, mediation and unfair labour charges filed by the Union with the Ministry of Labour for bad faith bargaining, the members ratified:

  • Date of ratification increases of $0.50 – $2.00/hour depending on the classification with the average increase of $1.30/hour
  • Lump Sum retroactive for Full-time – $400 and Part-time – $50
  • Year 2 increase – 3%
  • Night shift premium increases to $1.50/hr
  • Team Lead premium increase to $1.50

Pension improvements include a profit gains program that will be released on a voluntary basis for the members by the end of the first quarter in 2023.

Benefit improvements include a change in the carrier where premiums were reduced by 50% per month for the employee portion of the premiums. Vision allowance will be $250 per 24 months, dental increased to 90% coverage and $1500 per year max. LTD benefits will be added.

There is a change to gratuity distribution where employees will no longer receive gratuities based on a gratuity pool, but rather on the gratuities received for a specification function based on hours worked on the function.

We were also able to renew the memorandum of agreement in regards to senior employee’s receiving their preference of shifts.

This committee worked very hard to protect well established language for seniority rights, lay off and recall protocols, shift preference, etc.

Union negotiating committee: Nikki Delorme, Alcide Duval, Marc Houde  and Terry Rombough. Union representative: Shannon Epp.
