Daycare workers in Hamilton ratify increases to wages and sick days

St. Matthew’s House (formerly St. Peter’s Day Care Centre) in Hamilton unanimously ratified a three-year collective agreement on July 12, 2023 with wage increases of Year 1 – 3%; retroactive to date of expiry, Year 2 – 2% and Year 3 – 2%.

Language improvements include:

  • Sick days will increase for full-time members from 15 to 24 days, and from 7 to 24 days for part-time.
  • Employer will pay for annual registration and renewal fees with College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • First aid and CPR training to either be provided by or paid for by employer.
  • Bereavement improvement: three days for aunt, uncle, son/daughter-in-law, sister/brother-in-law up from one day.
  • Vacation entitlement timeline reduced.
