The 47 full and part-time Union members working for Compass Group at Extendicare Brampton, Lakeside, and Mississauga ratified a new agreement.

Members voted at several meeting locations held December 11 and 12.

Though the parties met in conciliation to work out critical language, the deal contains improvements for the Compass Group employees. In addition, the 3-year agreement consolidates two bargaining units at the three locations into one agreement.

Wages will increase by a total of 95 cents per hour across the board during the life of the agreement. The first increase of 30 cents per hour is retroactive for hours worked since the expiry of the previous contract. Should minimum wage increase to $15 per hour in January 2019, as is expected, rates for Dietary Aides and General Help improve substantially. This will keep a healthy gap ahead of the provincial minimum.

A senior cook in charge in the absence of a manager will receive a new lead hand premium of 50 cents per hour.

Members benefit from improvements to their vacations as well. Those with 18 years of service with the employer receive five weeks, up from the previous maximum of four weeks.
