June 9, 2021

On June 1, 2021 the full-time members employed by Compass Group Bluewater Health in Sarnia ratified a new one-year agreement.

Members will receive wage increase of $0.25 to $0.50 for all employees.  We are happy to report that this is the single largest increase these members have received and nearly all employees will benefit from the top increase with another $0.10 per hour in October 2021, totaling an increase of $0.60 cents per hour. There is also the addition of language to ensure that should there be an increase to the minimum wage during the life of the agreement, wages will also increase accordingly.

As these members are employed by a food service provider in a hospital, COVID-19 created added difficulties. A reduction in business resulted in layoffs and a partial closure of the business.  A week prior to ratification, our members were informed that their employer and the hospital are terminating their contract on July 17, 2021.  Still, we had a great turn out for the vote and members unanimously voted in favour of the agreement.

Negotiating Committee: Carrie Mitchell. Union Representative Navidad Talbot, Region 7 Director Chris Fuller.
