October 3, 2022

The 110 members at Cargill in Brampton ratified a four-year agreement on September 22, 2022.

The wage progression will be eliminated at date of ratification amounting to an additional $0.50 – $1.00 increase for all active members.  Members will see retroactive wage increases of $1.50 to February 15, 2022. Additional increases on February 15, 2023 – $0.50, February 19, 2024 – $0.50 and February 16, 2025 – $0.50. These increases apply to all rates and classifications. There will also be a $500.00 signing bonus for all current members.

Benefit improvements include $500 coverage for massage and $500 for physiotherapy. An increase in chiropractic coverage to $500 from $300 and an increase for psychology coverage to $1000 from $300.  The $75 cap on eye exams every 12 months will be eliminated and all other termination ages for health and disability until retirement will be removed. These benefit improvements were sought after outcomes for these workers to assist with the highly repetitive nature of their jobs.

We were able to achieve significant representation language including:

  • access for representatives to the premises,
  • the right to have steward in all discipline proceedings,
  • an increase in stewards,
  • language on timelines for arbitration,
  • introduction of a sunset clause with 12 and 18 months,
  • a pay equity letter and
  • letter of understanding for part-time workers.

Union negotiating committee: Chief Steward: William J. Chedraui, Union Steward: Ramanpreet Mand and Health and Safety member: Eric De Amaral. Union Representative: Mike Mattioli.
