Caressant Care Nursing Home members in Fergus ratify yearly wage increases and adjustments

Caressant Care Nursing Home in Fergus unanimously voted in favour of a new two-year collective agreement on May 4, 2023. Effective May 1, 2023 there will be a 3% increase and another 3% on May 1, 2024. Additionally shift premiums will increase as follows: Evening/Night premium – $0.10, Weekend premium – $0.10 date of ratification and $0.10 May 1, 2024.

There will be a special wage adjustment for RPNs of $1.50/hr. The $3.00 premium for PSWs that was instituted by the provincial government has been added to the wage grid.

Part time benefits will be based on hours worked instead of regular scheduled hours. As well, an issue with part-time members receiving benefits was resolved and most part-time workers will now have benefits. The dental contribution will increase by $0.02/hr.

Other language improvements include an increase to vision coverage to $350.00 every 2 years. Members have six months or until December 31st to use stat holiday alternate days, whichever occurs first and Christmas and Boxing Day stats are to be used by March 31 of the following year. There is also a letter of understanding re: Pay Equity where the parties agree to meet to discuss.
