Canada Malting in Thunder Bay reaches new agreement.

The new three-year deal will see increases in each year of Year 1 – 3% retroactive, Year 2 – 2% retroactive and Year 3 – 2%. There will also be an increase to the Sunday premium from $1.15 to $1.35.
We were able to secure call-in language that was important to the maintenance staff. The new agreement will provide that when maintenance staff is on call, their first call will now be paid four hours instead of no pay for the first call in.
The safety shoe allowance will increase from $200 to $300 per year and the vision care from $300 to $350 per 24 months. All employees can now split 1 week of vacation into 2 parts once per year.
New language improvements include gender neutral language throughout the agreement, the sunset clause will now be 2 years and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be added to the stat holidays.
