BGIS ratifies new collective agreement with wage increases and avoids strike action
BGIS Sustainable Cleaning Solutions Ltd. in Toronto unanimously ratified a four-year agreement on March 4, 2023. Members have achieved wage increases of: Year 1 – 8%, Year 2 – 5.6%, Year – 5.6% and Year 4 – 5.6%. The 10-year wage progression to reach top rate was eliminated and members will receive meaningful wage increases much sooner. Minimum wage language was also negotiated to ensure that rates of pay will never be less that $1.00 above minimum wage.
Language improvements include:
- Additional sick day for a total of 6 days.
- New – the cost of doctor’s notes will be covered if requested by the employer.
- Shoe allowance increases from $100 to $140 per year.
- New– One floater day.
- The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be added to the list of paid holidays.
