Attention: Members at Loblaw banners – including Fortinos

June 5, 2014

We need direct input from YOU, the members, on the issues you want addressed in your upcoming negotiations.

Please make every effort to attend your June 2014 membership meeting to ensure your voice is heard and that you participate in the future of your collective agreement. In addition to the regularly scheduled Quarterly Membership Meetings (click here), there have been additional meetings scheduled to make sure that Loblaw members have more opportunity to submit proposals. This list of additional meetings is available at the bottom of this page.

At these meetings, we will be taking proposals on what you would like to see added, deleted or changed in your Collective Agreement.

As happened in 2006 and 2010, we will be negotiating jointly with UFCW Local 1000A. Together our two Local Unions have more than 30,000 members who work for Loblaw Company banners with Collective Agreements expiring at the same time (July 2015), and Fortinos (July 2016). We will be negotiating for the Great Food, Zehrs, RCSS and Fortinos banners.

We will also be asking you to vote on participating in the National Defense Fund (NDF).

The NDF is a Strike Fund that provides financial assistance over and above what you receive from the Local Union during a strike. Individual bargaining units can vote to join and receive its benefits. The NDF provides support when you need it the most and given our bargaining experiences in 2006 and 2010, and knowing the increasingly aggressive non‐union competition and economic turmoil we face, we are preparing for a very tough round of negotiations. The NDF is your guarantee that in the event of a strike or lockout, you will receive extra strike benefits to reduce the impact on you and your family.

The vote on whether to join will be based on the following contribution levels: Part‐time would contribute 50 cents per week and full‐time would contribute $1 per week. This would provide additional strike pay of $50 and $100 per week, respectively.

As we progress toward negotiations, please continue to watch for more updates on your Union board and on the website for upcoming membership/ proposal meetings. Once again, your regularly scheduled membership meetings are listed here and your ADDITIONALLY scheduled meetings are available below (list no longer available).
