Members working for Aramark Canada at Sunnybrook Hospital Health Sciences Centre secured a new three-year agreement recently.

The agreement, ratified on November 6, 2019, includes wage increases totalling $1.20 per hour over the life of the agreement. The first-year increase applies retroactively for hours worked since the expiry of the previous agreement. Members will receive this retroactive pay within four weeks of ratification. The new agreement also contains improved pay equity language.

A shoe allowance of $25 will become effective January 1, 2020. Members will receive reimbursement upon presentation of a receipt.

Language improves to allow employees to save one day of paid bereavement to be used at a later date for a delayed funeral or interment.

Going forward, the employer will split the cost of negotiating committee lost wages 50/50 with the Union. In addition, the Union and employer will split the cost of printing the agreements for the members 50/50 as well, up to a maximum of $250. Lastly, effective January 2020, the employer will contribute $250 per year toward the UFCW Local 175 Training & Education Fund.

The contract will be amended to reflect gender neutral language throughout.

The collective agreement at Aramark Canada at Sunnybrook protects approximately 45 full-time and 60 part-time employees.

Union Negotiating Committee: Divina Alvares, Alex Haney, and Union Rep Orsola Augurusa.
