In January, Local 175 welcomed 110 new members from CapsCanada in Windsor who voted to join the Union.

The facility, which manufactures pharmaceutical capsules, employs a diverse group of workers.

Job classifications include Wash Rack, Utility, Machine Operator, Quality Control Technicians, Building Maintenance, Production Mechanic, Janitorial, Finisher, and Shipper/Receiver.

“The workers had a number of ongoing concerns that led them to seek out Union representation,” said Organizer Amy Tran. “From health and safety issues like cracked floors and mould, to harassment from management, they had good reason to join.”

Workers also noted wages, favouritism, and job security as other reasons for wanting to join UFCW Local 175.
