On January 21, 2012, thousands of labour activists, including staff and members from Locals 175 & 633, rallied against the lockout of 450 workers by U.S.-owned Caterpillar Inc. Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) plant in London.

In December, the workers at EMD, who are represented by the CAW, rejected the company’s offer to reduce their wages on average by 50% in order to keep the plant operational.

Following the rally at Victoria Park many protestors joined the picketing workers at the EMD facility. The workers are getting lots of support from the labour movement and the community. Retailer Mark’s WorkWearhouse has since pulled Caterpillar boots from its shelves in support of the workers.
