On December 10, 2017, members at GDI Services in Lindsay achieved a new two-year agreement with their employer.

The Union negotiating committee achieved important language regarding working alone. In addition, the contract now contains layoff and recall provisions. The employer agreed to improve its communication, and meet with employees prior to making changes to schedules, shifts, run areas, and locations.

The top wage rates improve over the life of the agreement by $2.80 per hour for both full and part-time. Members benefit from improved contributions to their benefit plan. The employer-paid premium increases to $140 per month in year one, up from $133, and to $150 per month in year two. Both full and part-time employees receive an improved work boot allowance of $100 per year. Other improvements include paid orientation time for new employees and enhanced vacation of 10% pay for those with 15 years’ service effective January 1, 2019.

The Union Members at GDI work at Sir Sanford Fleming College providing building services.

Union Negotiating Committee: James Mulhern, Ken Whiteford,  and Union Rep Mona Bailey.
