18 Registered Nurses at Rekai centre ratify new contract
October 17, 2017
The members of UFCW Local 175 at Dr.’s Paul & John Rekai Centre in Toronto achieved a new three-year agreement, which was ratified on October 12, 2017.
While the bargaining did require conciliation to address critical language issues, the negotiating committee achieved a number of improvements. Wages increase by 1.4% across the board in each of the first two years of the contract term. The first increase is retroactive for hours worked since the expiry of the previous agreement. In addition, wages improve by another 2% in the third year for all rates.
New language requires the employer to pay for all requested doctor’s notes. Improvements enhance the credit for full-time experience out of the Home by reducing the number of hours required to achieve one year of experience to 1,500, from the previous 1,950.
Union Negotiating Committee: Glenda Idolor, Evangeline Lacuesta, and Union Rep John Di Falco.
