Union Membership

A UNIONIZED JOB IS A GOOD JOB

Unions guarantee safe working conditions, respect on the job, good wages and health and welfare benefits.

According to research, unionized workers are happier with their pay, workload, training and safety conditions than non-unionized workers doing the same job.

While all workers in Ontario are covered by the Employment Standards Acts (ESA), unions enforce these rights and provide practical application on behalf of their membership.

Non-unionized employees do not have the same guaranteed protections.

Members do not pay a single cent in union dues until they have won these protections and secured a Collective Agreement.

UNIONIZED WORKERS ACHIEVE MAJOR BENEFITS

Benefits include safe working conditions, pension, paid holiday and improved wages that meet the increasing cost of living.

UNIONS ARE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS

Unions give members an active voice in shaping their workplace; participating at the bargaining table and influencing their governments and communities.

Historically, unions have been the forerunners in establishing many of the things we now take for granted like Medicare, public education and affordable housing.

Unions have been making life better for working Canadians for decades.
